Training for Journalism in Belarus.

Training of Journalists in Bel. by the BSU. It started in 1944. Since the more than 6 thousand specialists of mass media, radio and television have been trained.

The Faculty of Journalism was singled out as an independent unit of the BSU in 1967 with G.V. Bulatskiy at is head.

The teaching staff consider training journalists for their practical activity to be the main purpose of the educational process.

The students of the day study get education in the following specialities: International journalism, literary work, information and communication, journalism (press, radio, TV), web-journalism.

The basic course of training encompasses 5 years and graduates get the specialist degree. The academic year is divided into two semesters, each is completed with the examination session.

Now renamed the Faculty of Journalism at the Institute.

 

 

Online Journalism.

Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (www). His idea of a web, where people from all over the world can exchange information, is now real. Online journalism is defined as the reporting of facts produced and distributed via Internet.

1.Definition of online journalism: (is the reporting of facts produced and distributed via the Internet.) Some commandments of web journalism:

· Speed isn’t everything!

· Your word can reach many

· The information should be carefully controlled

· All correction should be accurate

· You should cooperate with readers

· You shouldn’t forget about the right for privacy

· It’s never late to learn

2.Distinguishing characteristics of online journalism

· Online = real time (Online journalism can be published in real time, updating news and events as they happens)

· Online publication can publish and archive for viewing now or later

· Online = multimedia (text and graphics plus sound, music, motion video, and animation...)

· Online = interactive

General tips: The shorter, the better; Contextual hyperlinking; Use formatting; Easy to read.

The ethics of online journalism are no different than ethics of journalism.

8. Radio and TV in Belarus, the UK, the USA.

GB

The bbc is the world service. It communicates abroad to a massive regular audience in 37 languages. The world service covers different events from sport & entertainments to economy and politics. This service is more trusted international broadcasting service in the world.

TV: Brit.tv is independent from government. But however the government has the right to veto any BBC programs before it has been translated and even has the right to take away the BBC’s license to broadcast. It’s no advertising on the BBC except ITV.

BBC&ITV are in constant competitions with each other to attract the audience. BBC1&BBC2 have much common.

BBC2&Channel4 act the main promotion of learning & culture. BBC2 broadcasts great literature & documentary series that have become the world famous classics.



The ITV never takes a break.

Brit.tv pay much attention to education and art.

Radio: is not financed through commercial advertising but it’s programs should be free from state control & should have no state subsidy.

The BBC run 5 national radio stations inside Britain and several local ones.

Radio 1 – devoted almost entirely to pop music.

Radio 2 – broadcasts mainly light music and chat shows.

Radio 3 – is devoted to classical music.

Radio 4 – broadcasts a variety programs from plays & comedy shows to consumer advice programs.

Radio 5 – is largely given over to sports coverage & news.

USA

All radio and television stations in the United States, must be licensed to broadcast by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) an independent federal agency.

three major commercial networks: ABC( American Broadcasting Company), CBS (Columbia Broadcasting System), NBC (National Broadcasting Company); the largest television network PBS (Public Broadcasting Service); NPR (National Public Radio network)

Programming: Primetime comedies, Morning news program, Soap operas, Popular Game Shows, Children’s Television Programs.

There are over 9000 individual radio stations operating in the USA.m At the same time there are close to 1200 individual television stations.

Belarus

National State TV and Radio Company today comprises:

- TV-First Channel (fast and reliable intorrnation about the life inside and outside of the country)

- Channel Lad (established itself as the first family channel in Belarus, main focus was placed on culture)

- NTV-Belarus (the best and most beloved shows made by NTV)

Belarus TV, First National Channel of Belarusian Radio, Radio Channel Culture, Radio Station Belarus, Radio Station Stolitsa, Radio Station Radius-FM, Five regional broadcasting branches.

There are only nine FM stations in Minsk - "Radio Rocks"; •'Radio BA"; "Radio Style"; "Russian Radio"; "Radio Unistar"; "Radio Stolitsa" "Radio Mir" and "Alpha Radio".

TV and radio stations about 200. Most of them are private companies.
