STATING PREFERENCES: PREFER, LIKE ….. BETTER, WOULD RATHER

 

a) I prefer apples to oranges. b) I like apples better than oranges. c) I would rather have an apple than an orange. Pattern: prefer X to Y. Pattern: like X better than Y. Pattern: would rather + verb + X than Y.
d) I would rather have an apple. Would rather is used to state preferences.
