Fundamental Economist role in a leading Asset Management company. The role is analyst level and is an ideal second job for a post graduate economist. You will be an original thinker with a first class degree from a top5 University and a masters in economics.

Combined with this you will have worked as a junior economist in an asset manager, investment Bank or Research House. Our client is looking to hire an individual that has original ideas and is looking to learn from some of the very finest Fundamental economists in the market.

 

You will be working as a junior in the research team with scope to grow and become a key member of the team.

Role

 

• Provide fundamental economic analysis on and insights into developed and emerging market economies, currencies and their return drivers on an ad-hoc and regular basis.

 

• Develop and maintain databases

 

• Tracking interest and inflation rates across the world, official reserves, etc

 

• Produce analysis to support the team

 

• Develop fundamental insights into the nature of alpha and beta returns in currency markets

 

• Become conversant with the company’s research and statistical tools

 

• In time be able to develop successful investment strategies

 

• Provide regular written reports for the business.

 

Skills Required

 

First Class/ 2.1 Economics degree from a Top 10 UK University or overseas equivalent

Masters in Economics/Finance from a leading University

Experience/Internship at analyst level as a Fundamental Economist at an IB, Asset Manager or Research Company

Banking Risk Service

 

IHS Global Insight's Banking Risk Service (BRS) monitors and analyses economic and financial market developments in about 40 emerging markets in order to assess their banking sectors' key trends and estimate the likelihood of banking crisis. The research results, which involves in-depth assessment of macro-level financial risks for the banking sector in each country, are delivered to clients online in daily Same Day Analysis (SDA) as well as through regularly updated Country Reports and a monthly Review and Outlook. Clients include major banks and insurance companies with international exposures.

 

Responsibilities:

 

The analyst, who will report directly to the BRS Product Manager, will be responsible for monitoring and analysing economic and financial market developments in about a dozen emerging markets in the Middle East and Africa, keeping clients up to date by writing SDAs and updating BRS Country Reports, and applying the BRS methodology to assess banking-sector risks. The scope of analysis will include the financial position, structure, and regulatory environment of each country's banking sector. The analyst will also be available to answer questions relating to banking sectors from clients and news media.

 

The successful applicant will:

 

• Monitor and analyse economic and financial market developments in about a dozen emerging markets in the Middle East and Africa on a daily basis

 

• Write daily “Same-Day Analysis” analytical articles on latest developments relevant to banking sector stability

 

• Update in-depth Country Reports covering all aspects of banking sector stability, including financial position, structure, and regulatory environment

 

• Collect and maintain aggregate banking sector balance sheet data and financial stability indicators

 

• Author in-depth special reports on topical issues related to banking risk in emerging markets

 

• Respond to client and media questions on banking sector developments and risks

 

• Provide support for efforts by IHS sales and marketing staff to promote and sell the Banking Risk Service

 

Qualifications and background:

 

Masters Degree in Economics, Finance, or related field (or Bachelor's degree with two years experience in economic or financial analysis) required

Foreign language skills are a plus, in particular Arabic

Strong IT and quantitative skills

Basic coursework in macroeconomics, money and banking, accounting, and finance (or equivalent job experience desired) desired

Basic understanding of banking sectors and financial markets

Excellent writing skills and the ability to write quickly under deadline pressure are required
