EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM OF DENTAL SCHOOLS IN UKRAINE

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS TO DENTAL COLLEGE

The admission to dental college is competitive in the USA. From fifty to sixty applicants are usually selected each year. Acceptance to the dental programme is based on the DAT scores (Dental Admission Test), letters of recommendation and personal interview.

The predental course of studies usually includes English, Biology, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physics. It is also recommended that applicants choose additional elective courses, because the profession of a dentist requires an understanding of psychology, sociology and economics.

All applicants are required to take the Dental Admission Test. The DAT is given in April and October of each year. Applicants can participate in the Dental Admission Testing Programme an unlimited number of times.

A personal interview is mandatory. Interviews begin in October of the year prior to the year of entry and in March of the year of entry. Two members of the Admission Committee interview candidates individually. The purpose of the interview is to determine the applicant’s knowledge of the dental profession. Therefore, it is recommended for the applicants to familiarize themselves with the profession by observing the work of a dentist during his/her “typical” day, discussing the profession with several dentists, and visiting a dental school. There applicants can talk to students who study there, and staff. //1200
