History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon.

Do you know what a soldier is, young man

A soldier is a member of the land component of national armed forces. In many countries soldiers serving in specific occupations. If we think about some historical events, we can say that soldiers took part in all of them. They, at first of all, defeated our lands, struggled against enemies.

Soldiers play a very important role in our society. The term soldier includes service men and women. Former soldiers are leaders in all branches of politics, industry and business. The military teaches a young man or woman discipline, motivation, leadership. Soldiers have to be on time and with the equipment ready to do the job. Today’s military is an all volunteer force.

One of the benefits of serving in military is help paying for college. A lot of soldiers take advantage of this benefit, showing a desire for self improvement. In the military many soldiers learn to put the interests of others before their own interests and do the things that are the best for the whole group instead of what is best for them.

Some people look at the military as just a machine which is used against wars. But today they perform some others functions. Soldiers perform many charitable acts, humanitarian missions.

Soldier is not just a man of woman. Soldier is a person of a great mission. One great man said: “Do you know what a soldier is, young man? He’s the chap who makes it possible for civilized folk to despise war”. But there is statement opposed to it: “Anyone who has ever looked into the eyes of soldier dying on the battle field will think hard before starting a war”.

History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon.

They say, history is written by the winners. So, can we really trust in history? We may not know what happened because the winner writes everything from his point of view. But what about another people who did not win the victory, but came through the blood, sweat and poorness?

We can’t believe in historic fact on 100%. Many scientists argue the history which was written before them.

And in our country we have the process of rewriting according to the new president. So, is it true?

Let’s take some example. In America, 4th July is Independence Day, the most important holiday in the American calendar, which the Americans celebrate with parades and fireworks. It was on 4th July, 1776 that Congress approved the Declaration of Independence. It was a good start. However, the struggle continued for another seven years after this, with some of the most brutal fighting in the whole war, as King George III was not willing to grant America total independence, which was the only arrangement that the American leaders would accept. So the fighting continued. The first draft of a Treaty of Peace was signed in November 1782 and February 1783 the King officially announced that the war would soon be over. This led to the signing of the Treaty of Paris on 3rd September that same year.

Think about the discovery of America. What’s the first name that comes to mind? More than likely it’s Christopher Columbus. He had set out to reach Asia and that’s where he thought he was when he came to America. But there were many people there before him. The first ones were certainly the Native Americans, thousands of years before 1492. Where had they come from? Even the Vikings had made a number of expeditions, with Leif Eriksson landing there in around 1000 AD. Perhaps Amerigo Vespucci was the discoverer of America. After all, unlike Columbus before him, he was the first fifteenth-century explorer to realize where he was, or rather, where he definitely wasn’t. So, maybe the word “re-discover” is more accurate when it comes to Columbus, if history is to give him any credit at all.

Everyone believes such historical “facts” because, like you, they got them from what they thought was a reliable source.

History is always subjective. So, remember: when you read history, take it with a pinch of salt.
