Americans are religious.

Facts About Americans: Most of us pretend to be religious.

According to a Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, which interviewed more than 35,000 Americans about religion, it found that 78.4% of Americans claimed to be Christian, 4.7% identified themselves with other religions (Jewish, Muslim, etc.) and 16.1% were unaffiliated (atheist, agnostic, etc.).

Another source (a 2010 Gallup poll) found that 92% of Americans said that they believed in God and that only 5% of people opposed the National Day of Prayer. I sometimes find these numbers hard to believe, I mean go look at the comments on any online forum/discussion, or religious video on YouTube. You’ll find many accusations that all religions are scams, cults and other vicious things said about religion and/or God.

However, when someone dies, or when someone is going through a hard time, it’s not uncommon at all for religion to come into the picture. Pastors/Bishops lead funeral services and talks about seeing the deceased again, in heaven, are abundant. Religion is a major part of our culture and will always also be a major source of debate.

9. We expect to have a ridiculous amount of choices at the grocery store.

Facts About Americans: We like our grocery stores BIG!

Many foreigners proclaim American’s suffer from an epidemic of overindulgence, but whom can we blame? The marketers for encouraging companies to produce their own version of something many other companies already have? The government for encouraging growth and an enhanced social mobility curve?

Don’t get me wrong; I sometimes cannot understand why Wal-Mart feels the need to have 3 aisles just for processed breakfast foods. Walking from one end, of an American Supermarket, to the other can be exhausting, but that’s part of what makes America and its culture great, don’t hate!

Attack of the Facts About Americans: the United States is the top desired destination for the 700 million adults who would like to relocate permanently and the second most desired is our next door neighbors, Canada. Because of the enormous amount of people wanting to immigrate, into the United States, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to do so and permanent legal status is not available for the majority of the world’s population. If you have an American parent, or find an American to marry; your chances just increased, substantially.
